Slowly but surely, you’re learning the fundamentals to mastering your habits. In the Anatomy of a Habit video, I talked about the 3 parts of a habit and how to tap into that structure whenever you want to intentionally create a new habit. In short, every habit has a trigger, an action, and a reward. In other words, something has caused you to act in a certain way in order to get a particular benefit.
Since then, I’ve been going deeper into the individual parts. This edition of The Habit Huddle talks about Anchor Habits, because the most effective way to trigger a new habit is to anchor it onto an existing habit. Duke University estimates that you spend 40% of your day engaged in habit, so you have lots of habits to choose from.
There are 3 steps to choosing an anchor for your new, desired habit, which you’ll discover in the episode below.
